Knook
Knook is a small, peaceful and historic village in the Wylye Valley.
It’s on the edge of Salisbury Plain with a backdrop of rolling fields, farmland and meadows with country lanes winding through.
It has easy access to the A36 and is less than a 10-minute drive to the market town of Warminster with its facilities and train station.
The cathedral city of Salisbury is about 35 minutes away with all its shops, restaurants, bars, culture and heritage.
The train from here to London takes less than 90 minutes. Devizes is a similar distance, a drive of around half-an-hour.
History
There’s evidence of a settlement at Knook dating as far back as the Iron Age, with a hillfort called Knook Castle in the neighbouring parish of Upton Lovell.
The Domesday Book recorded the manor as Cunuche with 19 households. The Grade I listed Manor House was built in 1637.
Knook Army Camp was developed in 1914 to the north of the village and is still used by the Army today.
St Margaret’s Church dates back to the 11th Century.
