Living in Wilton

Surrounded by the rolling Wiltshire countryside where the Rivers Wylye and Nadder join, the market town of Wilton is the ancient capital of Wessex, with a history spanning more than 2,000 years.

The beautiful Nadder Valley blends rolling hills with picturesque villages and lush valleys, and the thriving town of Wilton is a great place to live for those who want great shopping, cafes, garden centres and pubs on the doorstep, alongside that easy access to glorious countryside.

Just three miles to the west of Salisbury, Wilton is famous for Wilton carpets, which were made here from the 18th Century until 1995. Today, the historic riverside site houses The Guild, which offers a mix of independent brands and office space.

Wilton is also home to Wilton House, the country seat of the Earls of Pembroke, where you’ll discover beautiful parkland, an adventure playground and cafe, and a busy calendar of events including the Wessex Country Fair.

In the Wilton countryside is Grovely Riding Centre and the Pembroke Centre, which specialises in equine therapy for the disabled.

House hunters will be delighted with the great value of property in the area, and families are drawn to the town with its easy access to Salisbury’s excellent schools. The city has two outstanding grammar schools – Bishop’s Wordsworth for boys and South Wilts for girls, both with co-ed sixth forms – and some great private schools, including Godolphin, Leehurst Swan, Chafyn Grove and Salisbury Cathedral School. There’s also a sixth form college, as well as a range of excellent primary and secondary schools in the city and surrounding area.
