East and West Tytherley

Nestled in the picturesque Test Valley, East and West Tytherley are charming Hampshire villages that offer a tempting blend of rural tranquillity and convenient access to nearby towns and cities.

The villages lie just 11 miles from Salisbury, and Stockbridge, Romsey, Andover, Winchester and Southampton are all within a 30-minute drive.

Each village has its own character, and between them they offer a good range of amenities for residents, including a village hall, shop, primary school, church and pub.

History

The history of both villages dates to the Saxon era, and the name Tytherley comes from the Old English meaning thin or tender wood.

East Tytherley was given to Queen Philippa by her husband Edward III in 1335, and she moved her court to the village when the Black Death spread through London.

Walking and cycling

The Tytherleys are a haven for walkers and cyclists with numerous trails through the surrounding countryside and easy access to the scenic Test Way and Clarendon Way.
