Woodfalls

Living in Woodfalls offers the tranquillity of rural life with the convenience of modern amenities.

The village sits on the northern edge of the New Forest, with its heather-strewn open moors, shady glades and meandering rivers.

Woodfall has a great range of local amenities, including a newsagent and Post Office, pub, village hall, school – and even its own brass band!  The strong sense of community is a defining feature of life, with local events and activities bringing people together throughout the year.

The closest town is Downton, just two miles away, but Woodfalls is also only eight miles from Salisbury, and a half-hour drive from Southampton, so residents can easily access city amenities from their rural retreat.

The Woodfalls Inn is a family friendly village pub serving good food and drink in a welcoming atmosphere. The pub was given a stylish makeover in 2022, and a seat by the cosy wood burner with a pint of real ale, is the perfect place to perch after a long country walk.

The Morgan’s Vale and Woodfalls Village Hall is a versatile space that hosts a variety of events, from community meetings and social gatherings to fitness classes and private functions.

For families with young children, the Morgan’s Vale and Woodfalls CE Primary School serves the local area, and they can look a little further afield to Downton and Salisbury for a good choice of state and independent secondary schools, as well as the two excellent grammar schools in the cathedral city.

History

Woodfalls is a part of the parish of Redlynch and its origins date to the 19th Century when it began to take shape as a small settlement of agricultural workers and craftsmen. New homes were built post-war, but Woodfalls has maintained its traditional charm, with many of its oldest buildings still intact. Woodfalls Methodist Church on The Ridge overlooking the New Forest National Park was built in 1874 and joined the Salisbury Methodist Circuit in the 1940s.

Walking and cycling

Woodfalls’ enviable location in the Cranborne Chase and West Wiltshire Downs AONB (National Landscape) and on the edge of the stunning New Forest, makes it a haven for nature lovers and outdoor enthusiasts. This circular walk from the Woodfalls Inn follows the Avon Valley Path through beautiful countryside and along the river to the charming villages of Woodgreen, Hale and Hatchet Green.
