Whiteparish

Whiteparish is a pretty village that sits on the River Blackwater in stunning, quintessentially English countryside, split between Wiltshire and the New Forest National Park.

The village is on the A27, and close to the A36. It’s is a drive of around 20 minutes to the cathedral city of Salisbury with its shops, restaurants, bars, culture and heritage. The train from here to London takes less than 90 minutes.

There is a strong community spirit with a community-run village shop and Post Office. The recreation grounds have a football pitch, cricket pitch, tennis courts, children’s play area and multi-use games area, and there’s a skateboard and rollerblading park.

There’s also a small village primary school, Whiteparish All Saints.

There are two lovely pubs. The Parish Lantern is a country pub with a large beer garden, serving locally-brewed ales and pub meals. The King’s Head is a pub with rooms, set in a 1.5 acre garden and is stylish, welcoming and lively – hosting the likes of live music, curry nights and pie and chips quiz nights. There’s also an equestrian centre and an archery club nearby.

The bus route through the village is operated by Salisbury Reds.

History

In 1278 the village was recorded as ‘la Whytechyrche’ which evolved to ‘Album Monasterium’, or white monastery, and finally in 1319 it became ‘Whiteparish’.

The earliest parts of the Grade II listed All Saints Church are Saxon, but significant restoration work took part in the 1870s.
