Landford
Landford is a small village in the north of the New Forest in Hampshire, surrounded by heath and woodlands, grazed by wild New Forest ponies. It includes the hamlets of Nomansland and Landfordwood.
Despite its idyllic, rural setting, the village is just off the A36, around 20 minutes from the cathedral city of Salisbury with its shops, restaurants, bars, culture and heritage. The train from here to London takes less than 90 minutes. Southampton is about a half-hour drive and has a regional airport.
Landford has a vibrant, local community with a village shop and Post Office and a friendly local pub, the Landford Poacher, as well as recreation grounds at Landford and Nomansland.
There’s also the New Forest CE Primary School and a parish website.
Nearby are the Lavender Farm Tearooms and gardens which serves delicious homemade cakes, lunch and brunch. Nomansland has a pub, The Lamb Inn and Les Mirabelles, a bistro-style restaurant which has a seasonal menu created by French Chef Patron Claude, a massive selection of French cheeses, and a great wine list. You must try the frog’s leg and garlic tart if it’s on the menu!
History
There’s evidence of a settlement at Landford since prehistoric times, with barrows from the Bronze Age and earthworks from the early Iron Age.
The Domesday Book recorded Landford as having six households and a mill.
The Church of St Andrew was built in 1858 and is Grade II listed. There’s Landford Manor from the 17th Century and Wickets Green Farmhouse from the 16th.
