Discover the Chalke Valley History Festival

It’s nearly time for the Chalke Valley History Festival, one of the UK’s most popular annual events for history buffs!

Held each summer in the Wiltshire countryside, the festival offers a unique opportunity to dive into the past through talks, exhibitions and activities. It brings together experts, authors and enthusiasts to explore a range of historical topics.

Over the course of a long weekend (June 23-29) you can attend lectures, panel discussions and book signings on a huge variety of subjects, such as military history, archaeology, ancient Britain, medieval times and history of the royal family.

Beyond the talks, the festival site hosts family-friendly activities, including re-enactments, demonstrations and interactive displays. It’s a brilliant day out for all ages.

There are plenty of food stalls, places to sit and enjoy the beautiful surroundings of the Chalke Valley, and opportunities to buy history-themed books and memorabilia.

Tickets can be bought for individual days or for the whole weekend. The festival usually takes place in early June (this year it’s the 23rd to 29th) but it’s worth checking dates in advance as they can vary year to year.

Living in the Chalke Valley

The Chalke Valley is not just a great place to visit, it’s also a highly sought-after area to live. Known for its stunning natural beauty, the valley is made up of a collection of villages surrounded by rolling countryside, and ancient architecture. It was even included on The Sunday Times’ ‘Best Places to Live’ list.

Locals can enjoy a peaceful lifestyle while remaining within easy reach of Salisbury and have access to good schools, shops and amenities. Chalke Valley ticks all the boxes. It’s ideal for families, retirees or anyone looking to escape the hustle and bustle without losing access to services and transport links. You can also get to Waterloo in less than 90 minutes.

If you’re interested in moving to the area, we have an extensive knowledge of the local property market and can help find homes that suit a range of needs, whether you’re after a quaint cottage or a larger family house surrounded by countryside.
