Bring some magic to your festive table

Creating a beautiful Christmas table is a fun, creative thing to do and is a real treat for your guests, who will feel like you’ve gone the extra mile to make them feel special.

From silver candleholders to twinkling tealights, classy glasses, festive napkins and floral decorations, we’ve got lots of suggestions on how to make your festive dining table fit for the three kings!

Festive Christmas table

Choose your colours

Match your Christmas table to your decorating colour scheme, whether you’ve chosen traditional reds, golds and greens, or the 2024 jewel tone trend, which features everything from rich ruby reds to deep sapphire blues.

Create your backdrop

Your table linen is the backdrop for everything that sits on top of it! A festive patterned tablecloth and napkins will make a strong style statement against fresh white china, or traditional white will give a more colourful scheme a chance to shine.

Light it up

Candlelight is always an effective way to set the scene, from elegant tapers to bold church candles in hurricane lanterns. For maximum effect, dot tealights all around your table in pretty, coloured holders, and if there are children sitting down to dinner, choose LED candles for all the effect with none of the risk. Remember to keep any candles along the centre of the table low so that your guests can see over them to talk to each other!

Natural beauty

Bring the outside in by creating a beautiful Christmas table with natural objects found all around you. Rummage through hedgerows or visit a local florist to pick up seasonal foliage like holly, ivy, pine cones and fir branches, fill bowls with winter fruits like pears and pomegranates, and add herbs like rosemary to make the table feel fresh.

Christmas on a plate

Set off your turkey with stylish plates, cutlery and glasses – all sparkling clean, of course! And as we continue to embrace sustainability at Christmas, why not rummage around car boot sales and house clearance rooms to find pretty, old-fashioned china that can be layered up to make a gorgeous vintage style statement?

Bring the fragrance

Scatter your Christmas table with a festively fragrant potpourri to add the perfect finishing touch. Or choose candles scented with orange and cinnamon to fill the room with sweet and spicy warming aromas and really ramp up the Christmas cosiness.
