Shipton Bellinger
Shipton Bellinger is a charming, welcoming village in Hampshire, on the edge of Salisbury Plain close to North Wessex Downs Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (National Landscape).
The village, which sits on the River Bourne, is on the A338 near its junction with the A303, about 13 miles from the cathedral city of Salisbury, a drive of around 35 minutes, with the train from Salisbury to London taking less than 90 minutes. It’s also just a 10-minute drive from Amesbury, which has lots of facilities. Salisbury Reds operates the bus route through the village.
Shipton has the Shipton Bellinger Primary School, a GP surgery, a convenience store, mobile Post Office, garage and pre-school nursery. It’s a vibrant community, popular with Army families because of its proximity to Tidworth Camp.
The village also has a sports and social club and lots of local activities and events programmed throughout the year focused on The Village centre with plays and concerts, a mum and toddler group, fitness classes, a garage, WI and Bellinger Bowls Club.
History
Shipton Bellinger boasts a rich history that dates back to Roman times. The Domesday Book lists it as a settlement called ‘Sceptone’. All Saints Church dates back to the 12th Century and is a classic example of Norman architecture.
