Porton

Set in a rural landscape, Porton is a small, stylish village in the Bourne Valley with a strong sense of community and tradition.

The village is 6 miles, a drive of around 20 minutes, from the cathedral city of Salisbury with its shops, restaurants, heritage, culture, amenities, facilities and travel links. Salisbury Reds operate a bus service through the village.

Porton has a small, local shop for essentials, a GP surgery and the family-run Porton Garden, Aquatics and Pet Centre which also has a café.

 

History

Built in 1877, St Nicholas is the parish church for Porton, Idmiston and Gomeldon. You can find it opposite Chalk Meadows.

There’s also a local primary school of the same name, which has been teaching youngsters since 1972.

Walking and cycling

The Porton to Winterbourne Gunner route is approximately three miles and takes you on a circular route, following country lanes, footpaths, and tracks, offering a peaceful walk through the rural landscape, passing by the River Bourne.
