Idmiston
Idmiston is a small, traditional Wiltshire village with a long history. It sits against a backdrop of stunning Wiltshire countryside, close to its neighbouring villages of Porton and Gomeldon.
Although this is a peaceful village, it’s close to the A338, only about 7.5 miles from Salisbury, a drive of around 20 minutes and about a 10-minute drive to the bustling town of Amesbury with all its facilities.
It’s a close-knit community which hosts traditional events such as the annual village fête with games, music and stalls, and there are seasonal, organised family-friendly activities and markets.
There’s a primary school, St Nicholas, just a few minutes-drive from the village and Gomeldon has a school as well.
Salisbury Reds operates a bus route through the village.
History
There are 15 households recorded in the Domesday Book at Idmiston, then called Eunestetone, land held by Glastonbury Abbey.
The Grade I listed All Saints Church was built in the 12th Century, although it’s now redundant and in the care of the Churches Conservation Trust. Opposite the church is the Grade II listed Old Rectory and the Grade II listed Idmiston Manor also dates from the 17th Century.
Walking and cycling
A four-mile walk starting at All Saints Church and winding through an undulating rural landscape can be found here.
