Durrington

Durrington is a large village in the Avon Valley that seamlessly blends rural life with urban facilities and easy access to larger towns and cities.

With stunning Wiltshire landscapes on its doorstep and the River Avon running along its boundary, it’s perfect for people who enjoy the great outdoors, yet close enough to be well-connected to local towns.

It’s just two miles from the A303 and around 12 miles – a 25-minute drive – from Salisbury with all its array of shops, restaurants, facilities, culture, heritage and transport links. Trains from Salisbury to London take just 90 minutes.

In the shadow of Stonehenge, Durrington is also close to the lively town of Amesbury. The parish also includes the hamlet of Hackthorn and the military settlement of Larkhill. Salisbury Reds operates a route from Durrington to Amesbury and Salisbury.

With around 5,000 residents, there’s a GP surgery, pre-school nurseries, three primary schools and a secondary school. It has a number of shops, a post office, a garage, a village hall and pavilion, a library, a sports centre with tennis courts, play parks, a skate park, fitness centre swimming pool and gym, BMX track and multi-use games area. There’s also a weekly market. It’s perfect for families of all ages.

History

Durrington’s history can be traced back to Neolithic times and there are two ancient sites in the parish: Durrington Walls and Woodhenge. It’s believed that Durrington Walls may have been one of the largest Neolithic villages in northern Europe with up to 1,000 houses and 4,000 people.
